How do I deposit money into my Bamboo wallet?

Please follow the steps below to make a deposit:

  1. On the homepage, click on the '+' sign beside 'Your Total Wealth' on your iOS or Android App.

  2. Choose which of your 'Bamboo Wallets' you wish to deposit into: USD Wallet or NGN/GHS Wallet.

  3. Type in the amount depending on the currency selected then click the 'Deposit icon'. There is a $1 minimum per deposit for Nigeria and a $10 minimum per deposit for Ghana. The equivalent of this in your local currency will be dependent on the exchange rate at the time of depositing.

  4. Choose your preferred funding option and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Deposits reflect instantly in your Bamboo wallet but may take up to 1 hour.

  6. You will receive an email notification once the deposit is reflected in your wallet.

  7. Please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.


For Nigeria

Here are the deposit options available:

Direct Bank Transfer/Wallet Top-Up

  1. You can transfer to us from your Naira bank account.

  2. The deposit charge for the direct bank transfer option is ₦100 regardless of the amount being deposited.

  3. When you make the transfer, the amount will be deposited into your Naira Wallet.

  4. After making a deposit, please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.

NGN Debit/Credit Card

  1. We accept all MasterCard, VISA and Verve cards.

  2. The deposit charge with a Naira card is 1.4%. This charge is capped and will not exceed ₦2000.

  3. After making a deposit, please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.

USD Debit/Credit Card

  1. We accept all MasterCard and VISA cards as well as your American Express and Discover cards.

  2. The deposit charge with a USD card is 2.9%.

  3. After making a deposit, please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.

Brokerage Account Funding

  1. This option enables you to fund your brokerage account directly by making a USD wire transfer (via ACH, international wire or domestic wire).

  2. When a wire deposit is made to this account, your stock buying power is credited and you can use the amount to buy stocks/ETFs.

  3. It takes 1-4 business days for the funds to reflect.

  4. Only Bamboo users with active brokerage accounts can use this option.

  5. There is no deposit charge for this option. However, your bank's transfer charges may apply.

  6. Funds must be sent from an account in your name. Money deposited from bank accounts not in your name will not be honored and will be rejected.

  7. There is a holding period of 30 days before you can withdraw funds that were deposited via wire transfer. This means that after the deposited funds reflect in your brokerage account, you will not be able to withdraw these funds for 30 days.‍ You can read more about this here.

  8. Once the deposit has been processed within 1-4 business days, you can find the funds in your Buying Power by clicking on 'US Stocks' on the app homepage and then clicking on 'Breakdown'.

Important points to note when making a deposit

To prevent a Freeriding violation, you will not be able to sell a stock or ETF you bought on Bamboo with a new deposit until it settles in 1-2 working days. You can read more about this here.

Deposits using the Direct Bank Transfer/Wallet Top-Up option are always credited to your Naira Wallet.

If you deposit from a Naira payment option, you can only withdraw to a Naira account.

If you deposit from a USD payment option, you can only withdraw to a USD account.

If you make deposits from both payment options, the percentage of deposits from one channel is the percentage of withdrawals that can be made to that same channel. E.g. If 20% of your deposits are from the USD Debit/Credit card option on the app, then 20% of withdrawals will also be to a USD account.

​Withdrawals to a Naira account have a 45 Naira fee. Withdrawals to a USD account have a $45 fee.

The minimum withdrawal amount to a Naira account is ₦300. The minimum withdrawal amount to a USD account is $500.


For Ghana

Here are the deposit options available:

GHS Card

  1. You can make a deposit with your GHS card using the Paystack option on Bamboo.

  2. It usually takes 2-3 business days for funds to settle into your Bamboo Wallet when funding using this option.

  3. The deposit charge with the card payment option is 1.95%.

  4. After making a deposit, please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.

Mobile Money

  1. You can make a deposit via Mobile Money using the Paystack option on Bamboo.

  2. It usually takes 2-3 business days for funds to settle into your Bamboo Wallet when funding using this option.

  3. The deposit charge with the Mobile Money option is 1.5%.

  4. After making a deposit, please check the homepage and scroll down to your 'Bamboo Wallets' to view the funds deposited.

Brokerage Account Funding

  1. This option enables you to fund your brokerage account directly by making a USD wire transfer (via ACH, international wire or domestic wire).

Important points to note when making a deposit

The minimum you can buy a stock with is $10. This means that you cannot initiate a buy order with an amount that is less than $10.

Bamboo users on our Ghanaian app cannot deposit more than $10,000 per month at this time. This limit will be reviewed in the future.

If you are making a Cedi withdrawal, you can only withdraw in Cedis using Mobile Money.

​Cedi withdrawals have a fee of GHS 6.

If you are making a USD withdrawal, you can only withdraw to a Ghanaian Domiciliary bank account.

USD withdrawals have a fee of $45.

The Minimum withdrawal to Cedis account is GHS 5. The minimum withdrawal amount to a USD account is $500.
